The Korea Social Welfare Council has been fined more than 480 million won for leaking personal information of 1.35 million members.

Regarding the hacking of the welfare council in January, the Personal Information Protection Committee said that the council did not identify the password when requested to change it, allowing third parties to change the password and that they were responsible for neglecting to check the source code.

In addition, hackers said they did not know this even though they accessed the system's homepage more than 20 million times to check the existence of IDs, change passwords, and check personal information.

In addition to imposing fines, the Personal Information Commission recommended system improvement and regular training for personal information handlers, and disciplinary action against those responsible for the leakage accident.
