With about two weeks to go before the kimchi-making season, the price of kimchi vegetables such as cabbage and radish is higher than a year ago.
The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation said on the 18th that the retail price of cabbage is an average of 9,123 won per head, 39.8% more expensive than a year ago.
Cabbage prices are strong because supply has decreased due to sluggish cabbage growth due to the heatwave that continued until last month.
At 3,561 won per martial art dance, it was 46.9% more expensive than a year ago, but the price rose as the crop was sluggish and demand for cabbage increased.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs predicted that prices will fall during the kimchi-making season as shipments of cabbage and radish increase from the end of this month.
However, not only cabbages and radishes, but also other vegetables such as tomatoes have become more expensive than last year, and some restaurant industries have suffered supply and demand difficulties.
