A dog behavior correction YouTuber who showed behavior such as hanging or kicking a dog on a leash has been accused.
On the 6th, the Animal Freedom Alliance, an animal rights group, said it filed a complaint with Seongdong Police Station against Kim, a trainer at the YouTube channel "Deng-Dang-ee Counseling Center," which posts content to correct dog behavior on the 23rd of last month.
Kim, who has about 160,000 subscribers, has posted video content on YouTube to train through home visits after receiving a request for a dog showing problematic behavior. However, in most of the training videos, it gives a high-intensity shock to stop the dog's behavior, which caused controversy by directly causing physical pain in the process.
For example, it was pointed out that the dog's collar barking strongly at Kim was hung on the safety fence several times and pulled it hard, causing the dog to hang or continue to collide with the fence.
In addition, two dogs that often fight were kicked in the process of training and taught to their guardians. In the process, Kim also expressed the act of kicking a dog by comparing it to the soccer terms "inside kick" and "outside kick."
Kim was recently deprived of his dog instructor license, which he acquired from the Korea Pets Association. The association received a number of complaints against Kim and decided to suspend him after an internal expert meeting.
"Kim's behavior can never be considered a 'training' by inducing problematic behavior of dogs and giving them strong physical stimulation when they are excited," said Lee Joon-kyu, a Pet Behavior Guidance Society executive who attended the meeting. "Rather than listening to the concerns of the guardians, he showed authoritative and violent behavior in front of them, sold them as content, and destroyed the efforts and honor of other trainers."A public petition is also underway for
Kim. The petitioner said, "We cannot overlook the justification of animal abuse in the name of 'discipline', and we urge the establishment of legal regulations on violent training methods."
Earlier, in response to viewer comments pointing out the controversy over abuse, Kim said, "I tried and helped my dog's happiness and health and the life of my guardian's dream companion." It doesn't make sense to call it 'abuse' just by looking at it, he posted a video refuting it.
