"U.S. Department of Justice, Special Prosecutors Discuss Cancellation of Prosecution in Trump's Trial"

2024.11.07 AM 04:24
Special Counsel Jack Smith, who prosecuted former U.S. President Donald Trump, is discussing ways to close the case with Justice Department officials, CNN reported, citing Justice Department officials.

Justice Department officials are considering how to end the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, in which former President Trump was indicted, and the leak of confidential documents.

These two cases could be revoked by dismissing the special counsel through the attorney general when former President Trump takes office.

In a podcast interview last month, former President Trump vowed to cut the special prosecutor in two seconds if he took office.

CNN expected the Justice Department's review to take several days.

In the case of the "sexual scandal gag" case, where former President Trump is convicted in a New York state court and awaiting sentencing, "self-pardon" is not possible because it is not a federal court case.

However, the court may recognize the president's immunity and dismiss the case altogether, and the judge in charge will decide whether to dismiss it by the 12th.

If the court sentences the sentence, former President Trump will repeatedly appeal and delay the confirmation of the ruling, arguing whether state courts can sentence the federal president, CNN predicted.
