A graduate student who entered the dental school with the help of his mother, a professor, and was canceled lost the second trial of a lawsuit filed against the school's disposition.
The Seoul High Court today (7th) dismissed the appeal and ruled against the plaintiff in the same case as the first trial in the appeal trial filed by A against Seoul National University.
A was named in a paper written by his mother, Lee, who was a professor at Sungkyunkwan University's College of Pharmacy, to graduate students, and with this career, he was accepted to the Seoul National University School of Education in 2018.
After that, the admission was canceled in August of the following year, and A filed a lawsuit against the cancellation of admission, saying that he wrote a large part of the thesis himself.
However, the first trial court rejected the claim, saying that there was a part where A submitted the thesis as if he had written it himself.
Mr. A's mother and daughter also received a criminal trial on charges of obstruction of business, and in July, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced former professor Lee to three and a half years in prison and Mr. A to 10 months in prison and two years of probation, respectively.
