The first judgment of the appeals court came out that the state should compensate the victims of the Busan Brothers Welfare Center case.
The Seoul High Court today (7th) rejected both appeals from 13 victims of the Brother Welfare Support's lawsuit against the state and ruled that some of the plaintiffs won, just like the first trial.
Earlier this year, the first trial court recognized some of the 8 billion won in compensation claimed by the victims and ordered 13 victims to pay from 200 million won to up to 400 million won each.
This is the first appeal case to admit compensation for victims of sibling welfare support, and the Supreme Court has no precedent for related cases yet.
The Brother Welfare Support Case has been a case in which police and other public authorities have forcibly accepted those who have been identified as trampers to Brother Welfare Support operated by a private social welfare corporation for more than 30 years since July 1960.
The second committee for truth and reconciliation recommended that the brother welfare support case in August last year be considered a serious human rights violation caused by the exercise of the state's public power and come up with measures to recover the damage.
