Jeonjucheon Willow Tree "Unauthorized logging" is true... "Breaking the agreement."

Jeonju City, North Jeolla Province, which has been criticized by citizens for indiscriminately logging willow trees in downtown streams, has been found to have been cutting down willow trees in defiance of public-private agreements on logging, which is expected to have a community impact.

The Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province Audit Committee announced the results of the resident audit request today (7th) and issued an institutional warning to Jeonju City, saying, "It caused conflict with local residents and lowered the credibility of administrative agencies."

According to the survey, Jeonju City has logged 260 willow trees in two rivers between February and March 2023, ignoring the results of the Jeonju Ecological River Council's decision to cut down some of the willow trees in Jeonju and Samcheon, which are urban streams.

In addition, a year later, in February, when the Jeonju Ecological River Council was not easily consulted, 36 willow trees around the Hanok Village were cut down, and 40 willow trees in parts of Samcheon were cut down without permission.

The Jeonju Ecological River Council is a consensus body that discusses the direction of river management, and was jointly formed by the public and private sectors in 2007.
