The bereaved families of Malcolm X, an American black human rights activist who was assassinated in 1965, filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government worth 100 million dollars and 140 billion won in Korean money.
Malcolm X's daughter and other bereaved families filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court on the 15th local time, accusing the CIA, FBI, and New York Police of knowing or being involved in the assassination plan targeting their father and failing to prevent the killing.
Survivors say they have secured witness testimony that they saw New York police help the assassin escape at the time of the incident.
Two of Malcolm X's personal bodyguards also say they were arrested and jailed by NYPD, who disguised themselves a week before the killing, and suspect they held the bodyguards for the success of the assassination.
In addition, the bereaved family claims that there were nine FBI informants at the scene at the time of the incident, and that one of the criminals was closely related to the FBI.
Malcolm X is a radical black human rights activist who was based on the black religious organization Nation of Islam.
In 1964, he broke up with the Nation of Islam and turned to a moderate line, but the following year, on February 21, 1965, he was shot and killed by three gunmen at a speech hall in Harlem, New York.
Three Nation of Islam members were charged with murder and sentenced to life in prison, two of whom were cleared after being found to have been framed during the reinvestigation.
In particular, the New York police and the FBI were found to have concealed evidence that they were not the culprits, sparking controversy.
