In the run-up to the full-fledged winter season, Ukraine, which has been severely hit by Russia's large-scale airstrikes, will enter a nationwide cycle of power outages.

Ukraine's state-run power company Ukrenergo announced in a statement that it would be forced to limit power supplies nationwide due to damage to power facilities, according to Reuters and other foreign media on the 17th local time.

Ukrenergo said temporary power outages would occur across Ukraine between 6am and 10pm local time on the 18th, adding that "workers are recovering the damage as soon as possible."

Although Ukrainian authorities did not specify the extent of the damage to the electrical grid, the nationwide blackout is likely to be prolonged as it is difficult to restore it to its original state within a short period of time.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russia has carried out large-scale attacks with about 120 missiles and about 90 drones.

"The enemy's target was energy facilities across Ukraine," Zelensky said. "Unfortunately, airstrikes and debris falls damaged these facilities."

The attacks were carried out across Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, as well as the north and south.

Russia's defence ministry said it had targeted essential energy infrastructure that powers Ukraine's military industrial complex and had achieved all its goals.

However, contrary to these claims, nine civilians have been killed across Ukraine, resulting in a series of casualties.
