A senior British general has stressed that the British military is ready to respond immediately if Russia invades the Eastern European country.

Asked about the British military's readiness to respond if Russia launches a major escalation in the east of NATO, Robert Magowan, deputy chief of defence staff at the House of Commons Defence Committee on the 21st (local time), replied, "If the British army has to fight tonight, we will fight tonight."

"We need to prepare for Russia's invasion of Eastern Europe," he said, referring to the importance of a preemptive readiness posture.

However, the number of British troops has decreased due to budget cuts and other reasons, and now stands at 73,000, the lowest level since 1823.

Russia, on the other hand, has about 1.3 million active-duty troops.

Former Army Chief of Staff Patrick Sanders has pointed to the need for a civilian military organization, pointing to a shortage of troops.

Defence Secretary John Healy expressed concern that the UK military condition was "much worse than thought" and announced the early retirement of combat ships and helicopters over budget issues.

The conservative opposition party criticizes this, saying it "undermines national security."

Meanwhile, Eastern European countries such as Latvia and Estonia are on high alert as they watch Russia's invasion of Ukraine, while Finland has also warned of a possible sabotage by Russia.
