Park held a press conference in front of the Olympic Hall in Bangi-dong, Seoul, and stressed that unification is essential if Chairman Lee Ki-heung pushes ahead with his candidacy.

Chairman Lee Ki-heung then said that there are many problems due to unfair administrative procedures and appointment of close aides, and that he will begin an indefinite hunger strike until Chairman Lee announces that he will not run.

Former chairman Park, who is from Daegu, served as an executive member of the International Wushu Federation and a director of the Korea Sports Council, the head of the promotion team for the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, and the standing vice president of the Cho Gye-jong Central Credit Union.

The election for the chairman of the sports association will be held on January 14 next year, and while Lee Ki-heung is likely to run for the third term, former chairman Park, former president of the Table Tennis Association Yoo Seung Min, honorary professor Kang Shin-wook of Dankook University, Kang Tae-sun, chairman of the Seoul Sports Council, Kim Yong-joo, former secretary-general of the Gangwon Sports Council, and former Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo have expressed their intention to run.
