The Kremlin said on Sunday local time that Russia's research and development of new weapons is being conducted behind closed doors.

"I'm confident none of us know what new developments are going to take place in the future at the moment," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to TAS news agency.

Peskov responded when asked in a Telegram video by Russian state broadcaster Pavel Zarubin: "Why didn't we know anything about the 'Oresynik' missile?"Russian President Vladimir Putin

unveiled on the 21st that he had struck a defense facility in Ukraine's Dnieper region with a new medium-range ballistic missile, Oresinik.

Putin said the missile "attacks targets at a speed of Mach 10, which is 2.5 to 3 kilometers per second," stressing that "there is currently no means to respond to such weapons."

Peskov also told Sputnik news agency that hundreds of Russians are contracting with the Defense Ministry and participating in Ukraine's "special military operation" every day, adding that "our people are very actively contracting and serving with the Defense Ministry."

"There is no need to talk about mobilization at the moment," he said.

In a related development, Russian media outlet News.Loo said political scientist Sergey Markov had said that if North Korean troops joined the Russian army, the need for Russian recruitment would be reduced and new mobilization orders would be eliminated.
