Hundreds of North Korean soldiers have been killed when Ukraine attacked Russia's Kursk region with UK-backed Storm Shadow cruise missiles, local Ukrainian media reported.

RBC Ukraine, citing the Global Defense Corporation, a military media outlet, said more than 500 North Korean soldiers were killed and three others were injured in the Storm Saedo attack on the Kursk Marino area on the 20th.

The injured include two officers and a woman, and the woman may be an interpreter, the outlet added.

It also said the airstrikes killed 18 Russian soldiers and wounded 33 others, and among those killed was Lieutenant General Valery Solochuk of Russia.

Earlier on the 20th, Ukraine used British-made Storm Shadow missiles to strike a building believed to be the headquarters of the Russian military in Kursk.

The Wall Street Journal also quoted Western officials as saying that a high-ranking North Korean general was injured in a Ukrainian airstrike in Kursk.

The Ukrainian and Russian forces have yet to make an official statement on reports of damage to the North Korean airstrikes.

Currently, about 10,000 North Korean soldiers are deployed in the Kursk region, and it has been confirmed that the North Korean military has engaged with Ukrainian forces since the beginning of this month.
