"Harris may run for governor of California in 2026"

2024.11.25 AM 08:00
Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost the last U.S. presidential election, could run for California governor in 2026, according to reports.

The Hill, a U.S. congressional media outlet, mentioned the possibility of running for governor of California two years later, predicting the future of Vice President Harris, who will retire with Trump's inauguration on January 20 next year.

The Hill said Gavin Newsom, the incumbent governor, could not seek a third term under state law and could find another opportunity in California, the Democratic dominant state and Harris' hometown.

Fred Hicks, a Democratic strategist, said there was too much time left before the next presidential race and predicted Harris would be in an advantageous position to fight back late in Trump's second term if he became governor of California.

Earlier, in her acceptance speech for the presidential election, Vice President Harris said she would never give up the fight for freedom, opportunity, and fairness for everyone, hinting at a re-challenge for the presidency.
