Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Song Mi-ryeong expressed deep regret that four bills, including a revision to the grain management law, were handled by the opposition alone.

At a press conference today (25th), Minister Song expressed concern that the revision of the Grain Act would lead to supply and demand instability, such as oversupply of rice, and the revision of the Agricultural Safety Act would lead to production concentration on specific items.

The opposition party then strongly criticized the recent drop in rice prices, pointing out that it is contradictory to pursue new legislation that could cause a drop in rice prices.

The revision of the Grain Management Act, which was decided this time, is mainly about the government's mandatory purchase of leftover rice and introducing a grain price stabilization system, while the revision of the Agricultural and Marine Products Distribution and Price Stabilization Act calls for the introduction of a minimum price guarantee system for major agricultural products. The amendment to the Agricultural and Fishery Accident Insurance Act
excludes the application of surcharges to damages caused by natural disasters when calculating premium rates, and the amendment to the Agricultural and Fishery Disaster Countermeasures Act guarantees the production costs spent before disasters occur.
