With residents of Guryong Village in Gaepo-dong, the last shanty town in Gangnam, Seoul, who are about to redevelop, going on an indefinite sit-in, police have begun to secure recruits for some residents who have installed illegal watchtowers.

The Suseo Police Station in Seoul today (25th) requested an arrest warrant for A, the head of the work team, on charges of violating the Urban Development Act.

Mr. A is accused of building a 10-meter-high steel structure without permission with five foreign workers at the entrance of Guryong Village on the 23rd.

They were arrested at the scene where more than 200 residents were rallying against the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Gangnam-gu Office to issue confirmation of their residence.

Guryong Village's apartment development plan was passed in May, and residents are protesting the move and demanding compensation such as the right to sell.
