Amendments to the Permanent Special Prosecutors' Rule on the Exclusion of the Right to Recommend the Ruling Party passed the opposition-led plenary session.

2024.11.28 PM 05:19
A revision to the National Assembly's rules that excludes the ruling party from the recommendation of candidates by the permanent special prosecutor investigating the president or relatives passed the plenary session with 179 in favor and 102 against it.

The amendment excludes two of the seven candidates from the ruling party's recommendation committee from the permanent special prosecution in cases involving the president or his family.

As a result, the Democratic Party of Korea recommends two, the Vice Minister of Justice, the Deputy Minister of Court Administration, and the chairman of the Korean Bar Association, and the recommendation rights of the two members of the ruling party will be distributed to the minor opposition party.

In addition, if the recommendation committee recommends two people, the president must appoint one of them as a permanent special prosecutor within three days from the date of recommendation.

Since the permanent special prosecution does not need to enact a separate special prosecution law, and the revision of the National Assembly rules is not subject to the exercise of the right to request a presidential reconsideration, the revision will take effect immediately.
