A battalion commander who was put on trial for attempting to cover up, including falsely reporting the death of the late Sergeant Lee Ye-ram, was also acquitted by an appeals court.

The Seoul High Court today (28th) acquitted the battalion commander Kim, who was indicted on charges of obstructing the execution of hierarchical affairs, as in the first trial.

The court said it is difficult to say that Kim deliberately neglected the second measures to prevent abuse after the sexual violence occurred.

Company commander Kim and former military prosecutor Park, who are suspected of committing the second round of the sergeant, were sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation, reduced from one year in prison in the first trial.

Immediately after the sentence, Sergeant Lee's mother criticized at a press conference, saying, "We have no choice but to question whether it is a trial to hide the truth or a trial to evade the perpetrators."

Battalion Chief Kim was handed over to trial on charges of delaying the decision on disciplinary action without reporting it to his superiors, even though he knew the sergeant Lee had not been separated from the perpetrator.
