U.S. President Joe Biden has expressed his disapproval of President-elect Donald Trump's plan to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
When asked about Trump's tariff plan during a visit to a fire station in Nantucket, Massachusetts, on the 28th local time, President Biden said, "I hope he will reconsider." I think it's unproductive."
President Biden says the United States is surrounded by the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, and two allies, Mexico and Canada, and must not start ruining those relationships.
Earlier on the 25th, Trump said crimes and drugs were pouring into the U.S. through Mexico and Canada, and that he would impose 25% tariffs on all products imported from the two countries until Mexico and Canada resolve them.
President Biden also said he spoke to three Americans who were imprisoned in China on espionage and drug charges and released the day before by the prisoner exchange agreement, adding, "I'm really glad they're home."
Asked about his relationship with China, he said, "We have set up a hotline between Chinese President Xi Jinping and me, and a line of direct communication between the military," adding, "I am confident that President Xi does not want to make a misjudgment."
