[Gyeonggi] Hwaseong City begins construction of 'Dongtan Tram'...Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport approved the change.

Hwaseong City said the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has approved the change of the basic plan for the construction of the Dongtan Urban Railroad.

The approved basic plan change includes changing the project method from simultaneous implementation of the entire section to step-by-step implementation, and changing the total project cost from 977.1 billion won to 998.1 billion won and the project extension from 34.2km to 34.4km.

It also includes grounding all sections of the route and adjusting some stations to enhance the accessibility and convenience of transportation transfers of Dongtan Urban Railroad.

Previously, the city prepared a plan to change the basic plan after hearing residents' public hearings and listening to the opinions of the provincial council, and applied for approval to the Metropolitan Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in September.The city of

plans to speed up its business by placing an order for a basic design technology proposal during the first half of next year by expediting the follow-up procedure following the approval of the basic plan change.

Hwaseong Mayor Chung Myung-geun said, "Dongtan Tram is the backbone of connecting the city's metropolitan transportation network around Dongtan Station," adding, "We will ensure that the project can be carried out as soon as possible to guarantee citizens' right to move and to establish a safe and convenient eco-friendly transportation system."
