Russia's defense minister made a surprise visit to North Korea and met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un amid the intensifying war between Russia and Ukraine ahead of the launch of Trump's second term calling for an end to the war.

At the meeting, Chairman Kim Jong-un once again confirmed that he will continue to support Russia's territorial policy.

A grand welcoming ceremony was held when Russian Defense Minister Andrei Bellowsov arrived at Pyongyang Sunan International Airport.

In North Korea, military personnel lined up to greet them.

As his first visit to North Korea, Bellowsov discussed military cooperation with North Korean Defense Minister Noh Kwang-chul.

Details of the talks, including North Korea's remarks, have not been made, but some speculations are possible.

It is believed that Russia first requested additional troops and weapons such as missiles, in addition to the 10,000 North Korean troops that were previously deployed.

In addition, military technology and resources that Russia will provide to North Korea in return are likely to have been discussed.

North Korea and Russia have been speeding up military cooperation since the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed by the leaders of the two countries in June.

Minister Bellowsov also met with Chairman Kim Jong-un.

At the meeting, Kim Jong-un said, "North Korea will continue to support the policy of the Russian Federation to defend its territorial integrity."

In addition, the U.S. and the West's provision of long-range strike weapons to Ukrainian authorities was a "direct military intervention in the Russian territorial dispute" and Russia's response was a "exercise of self-defense."

The Korean Central News Agency reported that the two sides had "a broad exchange of views and satisfactory views on issues aimed at furthering the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, including the defense sector."

Minister Bellowsov also conveyed warm comrade greetings sent by Russian President Putin, and Chairman Kim expressed his deep appreciation for this.
