Rep. Seo Young-kyo of the Democratic Party of Korea urged the early review and passage of the so-called "three laws to eradicate illegal debt collection," saying that there should be no more deaths from loan-to-value bonds and illegal debt collection.
Rep. Seo said at a press conference at the National Assembly that there was a very sad incident in September when a woman in her 30s with a 6-year-old daughter took her life after suffering from illegal collection.
He then stressed that he would work to ensure that bills to strengthen debtor protection are quickly discussed, including lowering the maximum interest rate for individuals to 15% and expanding the scope of debt collection agencies unable to reach debtors directly.
