German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made an unannounced visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, today (2nd) for the first time in two and a half years.

Scholz said in a post on social media "X" in time for his visit to Ukraine that he would meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and pledge to provide additional military aid worth 650 million euros and 1 trillion won this month.

At the same time, Germany said it wanted to make it clear that it would remain Ukraine's strongest supporter in Europe, and stressed that its words and actions are consistent.

Before the meeting, Scholz and Zelenskyy toured military drone forces produced by both countries in private locations, visited war memorials and paid tribute to the fallen Ukrainian soldiers together.

The visit comes more than 15 days after Zelensky criticized Scholz's phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month.

"We have made it clear that Russia should not expect less support from Germany, Europe and many other countries in the world for Ukraine," Scholz said on why he spoke to Putin.

Despite this explanation, Mr. Zelensky insisted that Mr. Scholz's call "only reduces Putin's isolation."
