The original winter festival, the Inje Icefish Festival in Gangwon-do, has been canceled for two consecutive years due to abnormal climate effects.
The Inje County Cultural Foundation said it has decided to cancel the Icefish Festival, which was scheduled to be held in the area of the Icefish Lake from January 17 to 26 next year.
The reason for the cancellation of the Icefish Festival is that more precipitation in autumn and winter than in previous years has disrupted the creation of the festival venue, such as the increase in the water level of the Soyanggang Dam, which does not freeze properly.
Earlier, Inje-gun asked the Soyang River Dam branch of the Korea Water Resources Corporation to lower the dam's water level by increasing the amount of discharge to hold the Icefish Festival, but it did not accept it because it prepared for abnormal climates such as flood control and drought and maintained a stable water supply system.
As a result, Inje-gun plans to hold a summer festival themed with camping and water at the Binger Lake around June next year instead of the Binger Festival as it did this year.
