The ruling and opposition parties have formed a special committee for confirmation hearings that will examine the eligibility of the three candidates for the vacant Constitutional Court and have decided to finalize the hearing process within this year.
Rep. Chung Je-sik, a three-term lawmaker of the People's Power Party, will chair the special committee on personnel hearings, while Rep. Kwak Kyu-taek of the same party and Rep. Kim Han-kyu of the Democratic Party have been appointed as secretaries of the ruling and opposition parties, respectively.
The ruling and opposition parties plan to finish the hearing of three candidates by the 24th, and once the plenary session is resolved, the process of appointing Han Deok-soo, acting president, will be taken.
Earlier, the People's Power recommended lawyer Cho Han-chang, and the Democratic Party of Korea recommended Jeong Gye-seon, the head of the Seoul Western District Court, and Ma Eun-hyuk, a senior judge at the Seoul Western District Court, as candidates for the Constitutional Court.
