Retail investors sold a net more than 460 billion won, but foreign investors bought a net 268 billion won and institutional investors bought a net 134 billion won, leading the index's gains.
The KOSDAQ index also closed at 697.57, up 0.45% from the previous trading day.
Individuals bought a net 44.7 billion won, but foreigners and institutions sold a net 20.1 billion won and 6.2 billion won, respectively.
The local currency fell 3.4 won to 1,435.5 won against the U.S. dollar as of 3:30 p.m. in the Seoul foreign exchange market.
