2024.12.18 PM 09:47
The schedule for confirmation hearings for three candidates to fill the vacancy of the Constitutional Court has been confirmed by the opposition party alone.

The National Assembly Constitutional Judge's Special Committee on Personnel Hearing held its first meeting in the absence of members of the People's Power, and adopted a plan to conduct personnel hearings after electing Park Ji-won of the Democratic Party as chairman.

The hearings for candidates Ma Eun-hyuk and Chung Gye-seon, recommended by the Democratic Party, will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the 23rd, and Cho Han-chang, recommended by the People's Power, will be held at 10 a.m. on the 24th.

Chairman Park Jie-won said, "The people's demand is to make the Constitutional Court a nine-member system to resolve the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol," adding, "We will try to make sure that ruling party lawmakers who have been negotiating together can participate in the hearing process."

Earlier, the People's Power recommended a candidate for a constitutional judge and even nominated a member of the special committee on personnel hearings, but the floor leader Kwon Sung-dong decided not to attend the meeting, claiming that acting representative Han Deok-soo could not exercise his authority to appoint judges while Yoon's duties were suspended.
