The Paju-Yangju section of the 2nd Ring Expressway in the Seoul metropolitan area opens at 2 p.m. today.
The opening section is a 19.6km-long four-lane road connecting Paju-eup, Gyeonggi-do and Hoeam-dong, Yangju, with construction costs of 1.4 trillion won.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the opening will reduce the driving distance from Paju-eup to Hoeam-dong, Yangju, to 19.6 kilometers from the existing 25 kilometers, and shorten the time by about 17 minutes.
This opening will build 194.5km, or 74% of the total 264.3km of the second circulation line in the Seoul metropolitan area, and Yangpyeong-Icheon, Gimpo-Paju, and Ansan-Incheon sections, which are still unopened, will be opened one after another from 2026.
