KHNP Consortium wins project to improve Romanian nuclear power plant facilities

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Canada's Candu Energy Co., and Italy's Ansaldo New Clare Consortium have won an order to improve the facilities of nuclear power plant No. 1 in Chernaboda, Romania.

The total project cost is about 2.8 trillion won, of which KHNP will be in charge of replacing the cycle worth 1.2 trillion won and building infrastructure such as radioactive waste storage facilities.

KEPCO KPS, Doosan Efficiency, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction have decided to participate in construction and construction as KHNP partners.

Romania's Chernaboda 1 is a "Candhu" heavy water reactor, which began commercial operations in 1996, and is expected to expire in 2027.

Romania's Atomic Energy Corporation is pushing for facility improvement projects, including replacement of aging devices, with the goal of continuing operation in 2030.
