Business community's concern over 'conditional bonuses are also ordinary wages' ruling "increases corporate burden"

The business community expressed concern over the Supreme Court's ruling that conditional regular bonuses should also be included in ordinary wages, saying the burden on businesses would increase significantly.

The Korea Employers Federation said it is deeply regrettable that including all regular bonuses in ordinary wages will inevitably increase the burden of labor costs.

He also expressed concern that the business environment would deteriorate further, saying that companies would face an unexpected financial burden at a time when their business environment was not good, such as political turmoil, sluggish domestic demand and falling export growth.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry also issued a statement under the name of Kang Seok-gu, head of the investigation division, arguing that the burden of labor costs on companies will increase, which will negatively affect our economy, coupled with uncertain management conditions at home and abroad.

The Federation of Korean Industries also issued a statement in the name of Lee Sang-ho, head of the economic and industrial division, pointing out that the ruling would shake the foundation of the wage system and increase unforeseen management risks, which would negatively affect job security.
