China-Japan Conference of Experts on Polluted Water from Nuclear Power Plant... "Discussing the Supervision Schedule"

A meeting of experts from both countries was held for the first time after China announced a conditional resumption of imports of Japanese seafood, which had been suspended since the release of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

"On the 18th, experts from both China and China held a third technical dialogue on the issue of discharging Fukushima contaminated water into the ocean in Beijing," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Linjian said at a regular briefing.

"The two sides held in-depth and constructive discussions on the long-term international monitoring schedule and the independent sampling schedule of stakeholders such as China," he explained.

Earlier, Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the meeting with officials from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Tokyo Electric Power Co. to explain the safety of marine discharge and the scientific basis for monitoring.

Kyoto News Agency explained that a meeting of experts from both countries on the discharge of Fukushima contaminated water was held in Dalian, China, in March, but it was the first time since China announced a policy to resume conditional imports of Japanese seafood in September.

Earlier on September 20, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "We will gradually resume importing Japanese fisheries products that meet the standards after participating in long-term international monitoring within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and independent sample collection by participating countries."
