Acting President Han Deok-soo put on hold the introduction of the Insurrection Special Prosecutor Act and the Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Act to the State Council, and urged the ruling and opposition parties to come up with a compromise.
At a Cabinet meeting held at the Seoul Government Complex today, Han said, "The ruling and opposition parties must put their heads together to wisely deal with pending issues that conflict legal interpretation and political views, such as the handling of the independent counsel law and the appointment of a constitutional judge."
He then stressed that the ruling and opposition parties should start by discussing and negotiating compromises so that the majority of the people can understand that the special prosecution's push and appointment were made without any inclination in accordance with the Constitution and laws.
Han also pointed out that if the ruling and opposition parties do not make every effort to create a legal framework that both investigators and receivers can accept is fair, there is a high risk of growing distrust and hatred within the Republic of Korea.
He added that he eagerly expects the Korean National Assembly to come up with a solution that conforms to the Constitution and laws, centering on National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik.
