"North Korea Observe Russia's Large-Scale Military Training in September"

2024.12.24 PM 02:00
It was belatedly confirmed that North Korea watched Russia's largest military exercise in decades as an observer.

According to NK News, a U.S. media outlet specializing in North Korea, Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the Russian military, made the announcement last week.

Russia conducted military exercises in the Pacific and Arctic oceans, the Mediterranean, the Caspian Sea and the Baltic Sea in September, with 90,000 troops, 7,000 military equipment and 120 fighter jets and helicopters.

In addition to North Korea, China, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Qatar, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia and Thailand also sent delegations to the exercise.

However, it is illegal for North Korea, which is subject to international sanctions, to send military officials to foreign training to observe the drill.

However, Chief of Staff Gerasimov expressed his intention to invite North Korean delegations to future military exercises following his first visit to North Korea.

This seems to reflect the recent acceleration of strategic cooperation between the two countries, including North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia and the entry into force of the North Korea-Russia Treaty.
