The New York Stock Exchange's three major stock indexes closed early amid a so-called "Santa Rally" that steadily widened gains ahead of the Christmas holiday.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones 30 Industrial Average closed at 43,297.46, up 390.51 points or 0.91% from the previous session. The
Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 66.00 points, 1.1% to 6,040.07, and the Nasdaq Composite Index surged 266.24 points, 1.35%, to close at 20,031.13.
The Santa Rally' refers to the rise of the U.S. stock market from the end of the year to the beginning of the year, attributed to expectations for the new year's policy, increased consumption due to year-end bonuses and improved investor sentiment.
There were no materials or events to move the market ahead of the holidays this year, but low-priced buying has steadily flowed in after a steep correction last week as a result of the hawkish Federal Open Market Committee.
