Jeju Island will promote the food tech industry in earnest by announcing a strategy to create a food tech ecosystem and fostering 50 food production companies that use 100% renewable energy.
Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon said he will make a leap forward as a global food technology hub by forming an ecosystem of the entire process, from smart manufacturing based on eco-friendly energy to developing customized health foods.
Jeju Island aims to foster 50 companies that use 100% renewable energy with sales of more than 5 billion won by 2035, emit five listed companies, and create 500 new jobs.
It plans to strengthen the competitiveness of the industrial ecosystem by creating innovative infrastructure such as the Green Bio Venture Campus and the Food Tech Research Support Center at Jeju Advanced Science and Technology Complex.
Food technology is a compound word of food and technology, and it is a new industry that combines artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and biotechnology throughout food production, distribution, and consumption.
