Political consultative body of ruling and opposition parties 'parallel' to increase medical school...difficulty in discussion

2024.11.17 PM 06:10
The ruling-opposition parliamentary consultative body, which was launched to resolve the prolonged medical gap, discussed major issues, including the 2025 increase in medical schools, but failed to reach an agreement.

Han Ji-ah, a senior spokesman for the People's Power, said in a briefing after the second plenary session involving the ruling party, the government and the medical community.

He then explained that although the medical community proposed several proposals regarding the increase in medical schools in 2025, the government was in a position that it was difficult to change the confirmed implementation plan for college admissions due to legal issues.

When asked if there was any consensus regarding the quota in 2025, he said there was no agreement, and explained that the ruling party is also struggling with differences in positions between legislatures.

He also said that he is pushing for a meeting with the Korean Medical Association's Emergency Response Committee on additional medical participation, adding that he plans to listen to his opinions honestly.
