Minju "Sado Mine Memorial Ceremony with Yasukuni Shrine...You have to make a strong protest."

2024.11.23 PM 01:42
The Democratic Party of Korea criticized President Yoon Suk Yeol for the Japanese government's decision to send a person who visited Yasukuni shrine, where Class A war criminals from the Pacific War are enshrined, to a memorial service to commemorate the victims of forced labor at the Sado mine in Japanese colonial era.

In a written briefing, the Democratic Party said that having Akiko Ikuina, a foreign affairs official who visited Yasukuni shrine, attend the memorial service is more of a provocation and mockery by Japan to change the meaning of the event.

He then pointed out that a person who honors Japanese war criminals as heroes and demands Korea's concession on past history issues cannot expect a sincere apology and reflection on the victims of forced mobilization.

In addition, he urged the Japanese government to make a strong protest and come up with decisive countermeasures, and insisted that the government should apologize for the diplomatic failure over the Sado mine issue.
