Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol emphasized that the dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia is the first time in history that Asian troops have been sent to European battlefields at the request of European countries, and that the international community should be particularly alert.
Minister Cho attended a special Indo-Pacific outreach session at a G-7 foreign ministers' meeting in Fauzi, Italy, explaining the South Korean government's diplomatic and security strategies and measures against Russia and North Korea, which invaded Ukraine.
Minister Cho said that security in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region has never been as closely linked as it is now since 1950, and that close cooperation from the international community, including countries similar to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, is needed to stop illegal military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
Minister Cho also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between South Korea and the G7 to respond to the global crisis.
