National Assembly Speaker "Should Change Government's Attitude"...Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, "The opposition party should withdraw its reduction plan"

2024.12.02 PM 03:30
National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik expressed regret to the government over the confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties over next year's government budget bill and called for a change in his forward-looking attitude.

Chairman Woo met with Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok at the National Assembly and pointed out that this happened because the government did not properly guarantee the National Assembly's right to review the budget.

He then asked for active cooperation, saying the government should also be aware of the criticism raised by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the government on how faithfully they worked on the National Assembly's budget deliberation.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Choi said he would try if there were any shortcomings, but replied that the chairman should show leadership so that the opposition party can withdraw the reduction budget passed by the Budget and Accounts Committee alone.

He also added that the reduced budget is feared to increase uncertainty in our economy and create significant side effects on the people's livelihood.
