National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik demanded that Acting President Han Deok-soo should request the recommendation of candidates for the standing special prosecution for civil war without delay.
At the special counsel candidate nomination ceremony, Chairman Woo said he appointed seven members, including Vice Justice Minister Kim Seok-woo, and elected lawyer Lee Seok-beom, who is recommended by the Democratic Party, as chairman.
He then stressed that there is a high public desire for an independent special prosecutor to conduct a fair investigation, given that the martial law incident was led by a president with constitutional status as the head of the administration and head of state.
At the same time, he said that if requested by Han, the recommendation committee hopes to recommend candidates for special prosecutors who are trusted and have investigative capabilities through constructive discussions.
