Acting President Han Deok-soo has urged the ruling and opposition parties to come up with a compromise, with the proposed independent counsel law and the Kim Gun-hee law pending a Cabinet meeting.

Until yesterday, he refused to accept the opposition's demand to promulgate the independent counsel law, saying that a framework of law should be created that both the investigator and the receiver can agree to be fair.

Let's hear the State Council's remarks firsthand.

[Han Deok-soo / Acting President: The ruling and opposition parties must put their heads together to wisely deal with pending issues that conflict legal interpretation and political views, such as the handling of the independent counsel law or the appointment of a Constitutional Court judge. I think the ruling and opposition parties should start by discussing and negotiating compromises on how the majority of the people will understand that the special prosecution's promotion and appointment were carried out without any inclination in accordance with the Constitution and laws. If the ruling and opposition parties do not work to create a framework of laws that both investigators and receivers can accept is fair, there is a high risk that distrust and hatred will grow even more in Korea than now.
