In order to eradicate the recent surge in illegal spam texts, the government has decided to raise the level of sanctions, including "recover of unfair profits" and "exit of problematic businesses."

The Korea Communications Commission and the Ministry of Science and ICT held a briefing at the Seoul Government Complex this morning (28th) and announced comprehensive measures to prevent illegal spam.

First of all, the government decided to impose fines on mobile carriers, text message carriers, and resellers who send illegal spam texts or leave them alone even when they know them and confiscate criminal proceeds.

In addition, the company plans to strengthen the registration requirements by mandating certification of mass text transmission qualifications, and establish disposition standards for problematic businesses and exit the market.

In addition, we will prepare verification technology to block illegal text sending on mobile phones that steal names and build a text filtering function even at the receiving stage using artificial intelligence.

The government emphasized that it will form a permanent public-private consultative body next month to discuss self-regulation measures to block illegal spam texts.
