In response to global raw material supply chain instability, the government has come up with mid- to long-term strategies for discovering and stockpiling key minerals.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy confirmed the "4th Basic Mining Plan" after deliberation by the Energy Committee.
First of all, the government will discover promising mines through the evaluation of the existence of key minerals in Korea and promote private development links based on the information secured.
To this end, we will explore and evaluate two mines every year and strengthen support for drilling exploration and development of key minerals in Korea such as tungsten and titanium.
In addition, for the 22 rare metals, the government will secure stockpiles for 100 to 180 days of domestic demand by 2031, and create a dedicated reserve base by 2027.
In addition, it plans to develop core mineral treatment and processing technologies and increase domestic mining competitiveness by recovering waste resources and materializing industrial raw materials.
