Police Superintendent Baek Hae-ryong, who raised suspicions of external pressure in the customs drug investigation, filed an objection suit, saying the warning given to him was unfair.
The Lawyers for a Democratic Society and others held a press conference in front of the Seoul Administrative Court today (6th) and announced that they will file an administrative lawsuit seeking the cancellation of the disciplinary action, saying that the disciplinary action against Superintendent Baek is a typical suppression of public interest reporters.
They argued that Baek's warning was unfair because it did not specifically state what regulations were violated and the reason for the disposition was ambiguous.
Last year, while serving as the detective chief of Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, police officer Baek revealed that he was pressured by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and others while investigating allegations of collusion between drug members and customs officials.
In July, then-Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Jo Ji-ho issued a warning, saying that police officer Baek violated public affairs rules several times, such as not reporting to higher-level agencies, even though articles including the progress of the investigation were reported several times alone.
