Singer Lee Seung-ki attended a trial with his former agency Hook Entertainment over the unreasonable treatment of the entertainment industry.
Today (15th) morning, the hearing of the 20th Division of Civil Agreement at the Seoul Central District Court held a hearing to confirm the existence of a debt filed by Hook Entertainment against Lee Seung-ki.
On this day, Lee Seung-gi went to court in person and said, "I haven't received a proper settlement for concerts, album sales, and broadcasting activities for 18 years," adding, "It's so frustrating that it's hard to put into words."
"Hook Entertainment tried to pay the settlement later only after I asked for the settlement," he said. "Why do I have to ask to receive music income?"
In particular, Lee Seung-gi said, "Young friends (celebrities) are still being treated unreasonably. It's not just Hook's job. There are many agencies that have separate accounting books, he said. "Please take a look so that a young friend who works in the entertainment industry like me does not suffer from the settlement money."
Meanwhile, the conflict between Lee Seung-ki and Hook Entertainment erupted in November 2022. Lee Seung-gi claims that he has not received any settlement of music fees since his debut, and Hook Entertainment counters that he has paid Lee Seung-gi more than he actually did.
Due to this controversy, the so-called "Lee Seung-gi Prevention Act" was proposed and passed the plenary session of the National Assembly in September.
The bill calls for establishing a legal basis for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to investigate unfair practices related to popular culture and arts projects and imposing obligations on pop culture and arts planners to provide accounting details to their artists.
