Supreme Prosecutors' Office "Impeachment without justifiable grounds...I will not give in to undue pressure."

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office has strongly protested against the opposition's push for impeachment of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, including Chief Prosecutor Lee Chang-soo.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office issued a statement today (28th) saying that the impeachment system, a huge power given to the National Assembly to protect the Constitution, should not be abused for the political purposes of the majority party.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office said, "The handling of the case in accordance with the law and procedures cannot be a reason to justify the dismissal," adding, "There is no basis at all for acknowledging that there is a serious unconstitutionality or illegality in the performance of the prosecutors subject to impeachment."

He then criticized the prosecution's political neutrality, saying that if the prosecutor is impeached for not liking the results of the investigation, he could be swayed by the will of outside politicians when investigating the case in the future.

In addition, even if the decision to dismiss it after a constitutional court trial is made in the future, the prosecutors' duties will be suspended until then, which could lead to delays in handling various cases of people's livelihoods.

The Democratic Party of Korea is seeking to impeach Choi Jae-hoon, the second head of the anti-corruption investigation who cleared Kim Gun-hee of her alleged involvement in the manipulation of Deutsche Motors stock prices, Cho Sang-won, the fourth chief prosecutor, and Lee, the chief prosecutor.
