Employees of the Korea Railroad Corporation and Korail have been fined in connection with an accident in 2019 in which three people were hit by a train while working on a track at Miryang Station.

On the 31st of last month, the Supreme Court confirmed the lower court's ruling, which sentenced Lee, the head of Busan and Gyeongnam, to a fine of 20 million won and 15 million won each for three employees, who were indicted on charges of professional negligence.

Korail Corporation was fined 50 million won.

Lee and others were put on trial in October 2019 on charges of neglecting safety obligations in connection with an accident in which a worker working on a track was hit by a train and two others were injured.

They did not deploy additional train monitors even though the field of view of the work site was not properly secured, but only low-performance radios were provided.

The first trial sentenced those responsible to one year in prison and two years of probation, and fined Korail Corporation 100 million won.

On the other hand, the second trial accepted the defendants' appeal that the sentence was too heavy and all were reduced to fines.
