It was the first weekday evening since President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment motion was passed, but the candles did not go out.
Yoon Seok-yeol's Immediate Retreat and Social Great Reform Emergency Action, which is joined by 1,500 civic groups, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, held a rally in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace, 500 meters away from the Constitutional Court.
They said the credit for the impeachment of President Yoon has now been handed over to the Constitutional Court, and urged the impeachment process and dismissal as soon as possible.
[Kim Min-ji / Participant in the rally: This time, it has to be tried by the Constitutional Court, but it came out on Monday because I think I need the help of citizens before then.]
The cheering sticks appeared without fail, and according to the organizer, 2,000 citizens from all walks of life, men and women of all ages, gathered.
[Lee Kyo-il / rally participant: Teens and 20s are shouting to get rid of Yoon Suk Yeol, but I'm not doing anything, so I feel like I owe it to young people as an older generation....]
Around the same time, a rally was held in front of Bosingak, Seoul, to call for the dismissal of President Yoon, hosted by the civic group Candlelight Action.
The atmosphere continued like a concert hall, changing the lyrics calling for the resignation of President Yoon to familiar music.
[Kim Chae-sung / Rally participant: It's a rally that deals with heavy topics, but it's like a K-pop concert and a sociology textbook of Korean history where citizens are speaking out in a very peaceful way..]
Candlelight action and others said they would continue the rally throughout this week's weekday evening, and voices calling for President Yoon's dismissal are expected to continue until the Constitutional Court decides.
After the rally, the participants marched to the vicinity of the Constitutional Court and called for the dismissal of President Yoon.
Conservative groups held a rally in Gwanghwamun and other places, saying that the impeachment bill itself was invalid because President Yoon's declaration of martial law was justified.
