Although the number of migratory birds arriving this year has decreased compared to last year, the number of cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) viruses detected in wild birds has increased.
According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Environment with the National Institute of Biological Resources, the number of migratory birds in 200 migratory birds nationwide was 1.32 million this month, down nearly 3% from a year ago.
By comparison, there were 16 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus detected in wild birds until yesterday (17th), double the number of cases detected last year.
The Ministry of Environment said it has quickly spread the status of migratory birds to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and local governments to strengthen observation and to detect abnormalities early.
