Former President Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, celebrated his 100th birthday at his home in Plains, Georgia, on the 1st local time.

Carter, who was born on October 1, 1924, has stopped life-sustaining treatment due to skin cancer and complications since last year and has received hospice care, is the first former president of the United States to celebrate his 100th birthday.

On the White House lawn, a large sculpture depicting Carter's age of 100 was decorated with the words "Happy Birthday to President Carter," and U.S. President Joe Biden said in a video congratulatory message, "Mr. President, I really respect you."

President Biden also stressed that "a hopeful vision for America, a commitment to a better world, and an unwavering faith in the power of human goodness will be the light that guides us all."

"If someone has lived to the age of 100 and spent that time doing good for so many people, his 100th birthday is worth celebrating," said Jason Carter, the chairman of the steering committee of the Carter Center, which Carter founded with his wife Rogerlin.
